Men's Best Friend

Was watching this program 'When Animals Attack' on AXN the other day. And there was one particular shark attack incident encountered by a diver in the Red Sea that caught my attention.

Martin Richardson, a 29 year old diver was out on a dive trip in the Red Sea off Egypt's Sinai Peninsula with a couple of friends. During their surface interval, Martin and his friends saw a pod of dolphins swimming in the sea and decided to go down for a swim among the dolphins. Martin was among the last of his friends to swim back to the dive boat after swimming with the dolphins.

Just as he was doing so, suddenly, something took a bite off his side! Martin was being attacked by a shark! He started to panic a little, and the shark took yet another bite at his upper arm. Companions aboard the dive boat heard him scream. Then they saw 3 bottlenose dolphins encircle the wounded man, flapping their fins and tails vigourously, in attempt to scare off the shark. The dolphins continued to circle Martin for several minutes until his companions reached him and rescued him from the sea.

Martin suffered bites in the left shoulder, stomach and back, including one that slightly punctured his lung. After a week plus of hospitalisation, Martin can now walk, talk and eat normally, all thanks to his life saviors - The Dolphins.
